The list of democrat candidates growing to now nearly two dozen, and we welcome now one of them to the show. A former businessman he's a two-term governor of colorado. He'S 2020 contender. He'S democrat governor john hickenlooper great to see you governor, it's a pleasure to have you on you bet. Thanks for having me on governor, you recently wrote an op-ed for the wall street journal, saying you'r ...
running to save capitalism. Can you tell us about it yeah? I just wanted to make the point that capitalism as it works now and in america, isn't serving the people of america, and just because we have a strong stock market doesn't mean america is better off and youknow. I'M an entrepreneur. Colorado has gone from 40th and job creation to the last three years, the number one economy in the country, but it doesn't mean that the capitalism is succeeding. You know there are now seven and a half million job openings versus 5. 8 million unemployed. What'S really interesting governor is that you know in these debates you want to have people sharing common truths and facts. I mean democrats have used really flawed data in the income, inequality fight, it's misleading voters.

I mean the federal reserve says that survey that says as those making less than those that don't have four hundred dollars for emergencies like four out of ten people, it's skewed toward thefederal reserve says those making less than forty k. The federal reserve says that that is mostly lower income people surveyed and the census bureau is always saying morning that people always under report. Their income in talking to the government and the numbers of democrats use don't include the help congress got enacted like medicare and medicaid food stamps and public housing. So the debate is really twisted in this income. Inequality fight. I think the voters out. There know that the democrats are whipping fast balls by them. Listen, you can quibble over the federal reserve, but there are a lot, usually a pretty reliable survey. There are dozens of polls and surveys that say. Seventy five toeighty percent of americans can't balance their household budgets at the end of the month. Okay, individuals that are serving america know you're talking bank rate monitor, see they see. That'S the thing.

Let me back up. Forgive me, i'm sorry to interrupt. You say you want to adjust capitalism, how do just capitalism, it looks like capitalism. It'S moving is working pretty good right now i mean political considerations, often trump or override good economics. When you have the government stepping in right, so how you gon na fix capital, we got, we've got record debts some regard remarkably low levels of savings. We'Ve got all kinds of challenges, i mean we don't have. For 40 years, we've been havingevery year, less startups, less business creation, that's where new jobs are. We'Ve got to begin. Looking at. How do we get competition back in the marketplace? That'S what i'm saying i have an entrepreneur, i believe in capitalism pimp, but you need competition to make capitalism work. I hear what you're saying dude. By the way, do you agree with bernie sanders single-payer plan? What'S your position on that? No, i think that what we need is a public option, in other words, people that can't get health care on the on the private exchanges need to have.

You know medicare or medicare advantage, but you know i don't believe you're gon na take healthcare insurance away from a hundredand fifty million people without without a needless battle. You know what's really interesting. I, like your final word on this, sir, and we've again we're really grateful that you came on. You know. Jamie dimon said it took just eight years to put a man on the moon and it takes 12 years to get a permit done to build a road or a bridge. I mean, isn't that an issue you agree, i mean you ran a small business. You rent you basically revitalize lower downtown denver right with restaurants and pubs. Do you know what it's like to run a business right yeah and i believe that you need appropriate regulation. We were able to get theoil and gas industry to work with the environmental community and create methane regulations by everyone working together. While i was governor, we went through 24,500 rules and regulations in colorado and we either simplified or even got rid of. You know almost 11,000. That'S appropriate regulation, but but you still need regulation.

I hear what you're saying because listen we all agree. Pollution is hideous, but, sir, you know you've been really interesting governor will you come back on? I really like it at this debate, and you know talking to you about this, so you gave some insights and perspectives there that i think the democrat party needs to listen to more you're, really interesting individual. I meanyou ran a business you're. A two-term governor and you've got a lot of thoughts and ideas there governor we couldn't. Can you come back on soon sure, i'd love to come back governor hickenlooper there he created jobs in denver, co. 2 colorado great to see you.
